Why It Is Important to Choose Proper Eyeglasses for Fishing

With all of the options available for quality fishing eye wear, it is important to know what features to look for. Aside from how they look and feel on your face, they need to be light enough to be worn all day. Nothing is worse than than having a cheap pair of sunglasses dig into the bridge of your nose after only an hour on the water.  You also want a frame that helps eliminate light around your peripherals. Lens selection is also very important. You will want a pair with a good polarized lens. Lens polarization helps cut the glare from the water. It allows the wearer to actually see deeper into water, locating fish and even possible submerged hazards. It is also worth mentioning that, not only do the polarized lenses help while fishing but they are also great while driving in rain by cutting the glare on the windshield. Most fishing specific brands with also coat their lenses with a water repelling treatment. This will cause the water to bead up and not obscure your vision.

Lens color is another item to take into consideration. There are 5 basic lens colors available dark brown, light brown, green, gray and amber. While amber lenses are mainly used for low light and driving, dark brown and gray offer the best performance in direct mid day light. Light brown lenses are perfect for dim light and overcast days.Green should be avoided when searching for a pair of fishing specific sunglasses as they do not provide great enough contrast with the water.

Protecting your investment when they are not on your face is paramount. Most quality sunglasses will come with a bag or case. It is important that you use them to store your glasses in when not in use. The smallest scratch on them can ruin your ability to use them. It is a horrible feeling to pick up your favorite pair of glasses only to find out that there is a scratch directly in your line of site.
